The "Jeonnam-style 10,000 Won Housing" project, ambitiously launched by Jeollanam-do, is rapidly being promoted as an innovative population policy model aimed at both addressing the crisis of local depopulation and stabilizing housing for young people and newlyweds.
At the Housing Policy Review Committee held on the 2nd, Jeollanam-do newly selected Gokseong, Jangheung, Gangjin, and Yeongam (a total of 207 units) as the second round sites for the Jeonnam-style 10,000 Won Housing project. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 and be completed by 2028, after which residents will move in.
This follows last year's selection of Goheung, Boseong, Jindo, and Sinan (210 units) as the first round sites. The Jeonnam-style 10,000 Won Housing project, which aims to supply a total of 1,000 units across 16 counties by 2035, is progressing smoothly.
For the four counties newly selected, the province will supply 50 units each, totaling 200 units. In addition, Gokseong County will add 3 units and Jangheung County will add 4 units with their own budgets, bringing the total to 207 units. Combined with the 210 units confirmed last year, a total of 417 Jeonnam-style 10,000 Won Housing units will be supplied. In just over two years since the introduction of the 10,000 Won Housing, 42% of the 1,000-unit supply goal has been achieved, accelerating housing stability for young people and newlyweds.
The reasons for selection by region are as follows: Yeongam County was chosen for its regionally specialized rental smart farm and the Yeongam-eup Compact City Development Project; Gokseong County for the continued job creation at the Kumho Tire factory; Jangheung County for the expected revitalization of the Jangheung Bio-Industry Complex through large-scale corporate attraction; and Gangjin County for confirmed investment by a Chinese company and the youth glocal project at the former Seonghwa University site. These factors were highly evaluated for their potential to attract young people.
Notably, like the first round sites, the newly selected areas are located in urban centers with concentrated amenities such as elementary schools, childcare facilities, and hospitals, which are expected to greatly enhance the living conditions for young people and newlyweds moving in.
Kim Yung-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, stated, "Just as the nation’s first-ever farmer and fisher public benefit allowance and the province-wide voucher taxi initiative were adopted as national policies and spread nationwide, we will strive to have the Jeonnam-style 10,000 Won Housing reflected in national policy so that more young people and newlyweds can benefit."
Meanwhile, the Jeonnam-style 10,000 Won Housing project supplies newly built apartments with a maximum lease period of 10 years, offering units under 85 square meters for newlyweds and under 60 square meters for young people, all without a deposit and at a monthly rent of just 10,000 won.
