Fulfilling Public Healthcare Functions in Suncheon, Gwangyang, Gurye, Boseong, and Goheung
"I will do my best to earn the trust and love of local residents by treating patients sincerely, not regarding medicine merely as a business."
Min Youngdon, the 17th President of Jeonnam Suncheon Medical Center, stated in his inauguration speech, "The very mission of Suncheon Medical Center lies in fulfilling public healthcare," expressing his commitment.
President Min emphasized "the contribution made in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and treating patients during the nearly three years the center was designated as a dedicated infectious disease hospital during the pandemic."
He declared, "Our top priority is to strengthen public healthcare functions so that Suncheon Medical Center can serve as the responsible healthcare institution for the Suncheon region of Jeollanam-do (Suncheon, Gwangyang, Gurye, Boseong, Goheung), working to close essential healthcare gaps and making the area one of the most desirable places to live in the country."
In particular, he added, "As a regional public healthcare hub, we will establish a robust medical administration and delivery system at Suncheon Medical Center so that not only emergency and critically ill patients but also those with mild conditions can receive optimal care by refining our patient referral system."
First, we will establish an effective in-hospital care delivery system, and further, strengthen cooperation among medical institutions (primary, secondary, tertiary) within the region for an integrated out-of-hospital care delivery system.
Furthermore, he expressed his determination, "By reducing unnecessary costs and devising strategies to increase revenue, which are fundamental to improving our financial balance, we will lay the groundwork for self-sustaining management."
To achieve this, we will focus on expanding our medical staff?including doctors, nurses, and medical technologists?and enhancing their capabilities. We will also improve the quality of medical services by optimizing patient-centered hospital care and administrative processes, ensuring that patients experience no inconvenience during their stay.
Moreover, he pledged, "I will never forget my initial resolve and will faithfully fulfill my duties as president with sincerity, developing Suncheon Medical Center into the leading institution in public healthcare."
President Min reaffirmed, "Going forward, I will not lose my original intention and will do my utmost to win the trust and love of local residents by treating patients sincerely, not regarding medicine merely as a business."
Meanwhile, President Min graduated from Gwangju Ilgo and Chosun University College of Medicine. He served as a research professor at California State University in the United States, chairman of the Chosun University College of Medicine Faculty Association, director of the Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation's Radiation Application Promotion Center, and as president of Chosun University Hospital for two years starting in 2011. He has also served as chairman of the Organ Donation Foundation, president of the Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of the Korean Surgical Society, president of the Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of the Korean National Tuberculosis Association, president of the Korean Gastric Cancer Association, a member of the board of the Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea, and as the 17th president of Chosun University.
