The Jeollanam-do Autonomous Police Committee has selected 10 cities and counties as recipients of the "2025 Traffic Environment Improvement Contest Project" to expand resident participation and create a regionally customized traffic safety environment.
This contest project was divided into two categories: ▲Community Participation Traffic Environment Improvement Project, and ▲Safe Crosswalks Illuminated by Light Project.
For the Community Participation Traffic Environment Improvement Project, eight cities and counties were selected: Gwangyang, Yeonggwang, Muan, Wando, Gangjin, Jangheung, Boseong, and Haenam. These areas will actively promote traffic environment improvement projects tailored to local conditions, such as maintenance of senior protection zones (village resident protection sections).
For the Safe Crosswalks Illuminated by Light Project, Goheung and Yeongam were selected. In these regions, smart safety facilities such as ground-type LED pedestrian signals, pedestrian detection devices, and warning lights will be installed to help prevent nighttime pedestrian traffic accidents.
The selected cities and counties will receive subsidies this month to ensure a prompt start to the projects. The total project budget is 900 million KRW, with 360 million KRW (40%) funded by the province and 540 million KRW (60%) by the cities and counties.
Jung Soonkwan, Chairperson of the Jeonnam Autonomous Police Committee, stated, "This project is significant in that local residents become the main agents in identifying and solving traffic safety issues," and added, "We will continue to provide active interest and support to create a traffic safety environment that residents can truly experience."
The Jeonnam Autonomous Police Committee plans to closely cooperate with the selected cities and counties to ensure smooth project implementation, continuously monitor progress, and devote all efforts to completing the projects within the year and achieving tangible results.
