Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, Achieves 80% Average Fulfillment Rate of Promises in the 8th Local Government Term

Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Gang-su)'s entire public pledge projects for the 8th term of the elected government are progressing smoothly with an average implementation rate of 80%.

Mapo-gu has set the vision of the 8th term as "New Mapo, Better Mapo" and established five strategic goals: "Communicative Mapo," "Accompanying Mapo," "Coexisting Mapo," "Attractive Mapo," and "Safe Mapo," accelerating the promotion of pledge projects to open the "Era of Happiness for Mapo Residents."

Currently, less than three years into the 8th term, Mapo-gu has completed 24 out of 37 pledge projects, accounting for 65%, enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Among the completed pledges, the standout projects are the "Hyo-do Bapsang" (Filial Piety Meal) and the "Hongdae Cultural Arts Tourism Special Zone Revitalization" centered around the Red Road area.

"Hyo-do Bapsang" is a unique senior welfare model in Mapo-gu that goes beyond providing balanced lunch meals for seniors aged 75 and older; it also prevents solitary deaths through welfare checks and offers health consultations for diabetes, hypertension, as well as legal and tax counseling.

Mapo-gu initially planned to establish Hyo-do Bapsang institutions in all 16 neighborhoods by the second quarter of 2026, but to ensure a happy old age for seniors, the project was expedited and has been operating in all neighborhoods since 2023, three years ahead of schedule.

Even after project implementation, Mapo-gu continues to secure Hyo-do Bapsang institutions to realize universal senior welfare and has established two side-dish factories to significantly expand the number of beneficiaries within a limited budget.

Currently, about 1,800 seniors use the Hyo-do Bapsang meal service at local institutions.

The "Hongdae Cultural Arts Tourism Special Zone Revitalization" project was promoted to attract tourists and revitalize the local economy by utilizing Mapo-gu's unique tourism resources.

Mapo-gu improved facilities around the Red Road tourism special zone and revitalized the commercial district, which had been stagnant due to COVID-19, by hosting various festivals such as the "Red Road Festival."

Alongside this, another pledge project, "Establishing a Foundation for Hongdae Cultural Revitalization," created a pedestrian-friendly environment and expanded infrastructure for Red Road R1 and R2.

As a result, the Red Road area has emerged as a popular destination visited by 52% of foreign tourists coming to Seoul.

In addition, Mapo-gu has successfully completed key pledges such as the "Regional and Complaint-specific Coexistence Committee," "Year-round Opening of Sports Facilities," and "Mapo Pet Camping Site Creation."

Recently, the "Mapo Circular Train Bus," a pledge project aimed at revitalizing alleyway commercial districts, has been operating on a trial basis, connecting major tourist attractions and 11 commercial districts throughout Mapo.

Mapo-gu plans to continuously monitor the progress of pledge projects during the remaining period of the 8th term and focus all efforts on ongoing projects.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "We will meticulously check even the smallest details to enhance the completeness of the projects," and added, "Mapo-gu will do its best to make the future promised to residents a reality."
