The Chonnam National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation (Biomaterials Development Center) announced on the 2nd that it recently held the ‘2025 Kick-Off Meeting’ for the project ‘Establishment of a Demonstration Base for Bio-Interfacing Implantable Bioabsorbable Medical Devices,’ which is part of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s Industrial Innovation Infrastructure Construction Project.

More than 100 people attended the meeting, including representatives from Gwangju City, the project’s lead institution Chonnam National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, participating organizations such as Gwangju Technopark, Korea Testing & Research Institute, Osong Medical Innovation Foundation, Chonnam National University Hospital, Yonsei University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, and beneficiary companies.

The meeting was divided into morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session began with a presentation on this year’s project operation plan, followed by ▲guidance on agreement procedures ▲introduction of new company support projects ▲an expert lecture on domestic and international regulatory trends and amendments for 2025. The afternoon session provided networking time for project organizations and beneficiary companies to discuss the direction of future support projects and explore practical cooperation measures.

The Bio-Interfacing Implantable Bioabsorbable Medical Device Demonstration Base Project is entering its second phase this year and plans to operate 96 technical support programs for a total of 40 companies. These programs will be conducted in both complex and phased formats to reflect the diverse needs of companies. In addition, obtaining overseas regulatory approvals and hospital code registrations have been set as additional performance goals to actively support entry into domestic and international markets.

Kang Seongsu, Director of the Biomaterials Development Center, stated, “Despite challenging internal and external conditions, with the support of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Gwangju City, six organizations including the lead institution have been able to demonstrate their innovation capabilities and continue the company support project this year.” He added, “We will strive even harder to carry out the entire process of technology development to commercialization for bio-interfacing bioabsorbable medical devices within the project group itself.”
