Recruitment of Je Hyeonjeong, Former Head of KITA Washington Branch
Experience in Trade Research and Government Relations
To strengthen its responsiveness to the rapidly changing U.S. market, LG Group recently recruited Je Hyeon-jeong, head of the Washington branch of the Korea International Trade Association, as a leader for its U.S. government relations organization, 'LG Washington Office.'
According to industry sources on the 2nd, after joining LG Group, Je has been known to take on the role of managing the company's industrial policy. Previously, he mainly conducted research and government-related activities in the field of trade, including serving as the head of the Trade Support Division at the Korea International Trade Association. He is regarded as an expert on trade issues with the U.S., having participated as a private sector expert in negotiations for the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Korea-Canada FTA, and Korea-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
In November last year, Je participated in a panel discussion hosted by American University in Washington, D.C., stating, "The biggest difference between the first and second terms of the Trump administration is that now there are more of our companies investing in the U.S., and we contribute significantly to the regional economy." He added, "State governments in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and other regions where our companies have invested can become our allies, and it is necessary to engage with them so that they can raise their voices and represent our interests."
Regarding the U.S. government's control over exports and investments in advanced technologies citing national security reasons, he cautioned, "If all emerging technologies are controlled and regulated, innovation will die," and urged, "The scope of regulation should be narrowed to technologies that truly affect national interests and security."
