Establishment of Policy Support and Cooperation System with Jeollanam-do Province and Related Institutions

Local shipbuilding companies and their partner firms have formed a consultative body to establish the 'Shipbuilding Outfitting Manufacturer Digital Valley,' officially launching activities for digital transformation and automation innovation.

The consultative body announced on the 2nd that a field demonstration event showcasing exemplary cases of automation for the creation of the 'Shipbuilding Outfitting Manufacturer Digital Valley' was held at Sunwoo Co., Ltd., with representatives from HD Hyundai Samho, Daehan Shipbuilding, and major local outfitting partner companies in attendance.

During the event, the production process of outfitting items using an 'automated welding robot for variable-type Runner Bar & Hanger (Cable Tray)' was demonstrated.

HD Hyundai Samho provided blueprints and numerical data for automation, while Sunwoo Co., Ltd. gave a detailed explanation of the entire operation process of the welding robot through data integration with the robot.

Jung Myunghoon, CEO of Sunwoo Co., Ltd., stated, "The traditional manual process had low productivity and significant quality variation, but after introducing the automated welding robot, productivity doubled, and we achieved improvements in production speed and quality consistency."

Recently, the shipbuilding industry has faced urgent needs to secure competitiveness due to advancements in automation technology in the Chinese shipbuilding sector and a worsening domestic workforce shortage. As a result, outfitting manufacturers within the Daebul Industrial Complex have increasingly recognized the necessity of securing competitiveness through production process innovation and automation leveraging digital technology.

Partner companies plan to use this demonstration event as an opportunity to directly experience the need for digital transformation and to further develop concrete plans for cooperation in automation adoption.

Shim Hakmoo, Executive Vice President of HD Hyundai Samho, stated, "To promote digital transformation and automation among local partner companies, we will establish policy and technical cooperation systems together with Jeollanam-do Province, Daehan Shipbuilding, Jeonnam Technopark (Jeonnam TP), and the Daebul Industry-Academia Convergence Institute."

He added, "Starting with outfitting companies in the Daebul Industrial Complex, we plan to expand to pipe manufacturing companies, with HD Hyundai Samho taking the lead in establishing the Daebul Industrial Complex Manufacturer Digital Valley."
