The city of Gongju in South Chungcheong Province held a ceremony on the 2nd at KTX Gongju Station to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its opening.

According to the city, since KTX Gongju Station opened on April 2, 2015, the average daily number of passengers has tripled to around 1,100, contributing to improved transportation convenience and revitalization of the local economy in Gongju and nearby areas.

To mark the 10th anniversary, the city organized various events, including on-site social network service (SNS) events and the presentation of special souvenirs to the 10th passenger at Gongju Station.

For the SNS event, throughout April, citizens who subscribe to the official Gongju city tourism SNS account ‘Gongju Travel (gongjutravel)’ and leave a comment will receive commemorative gifts (a set of toothpaste and toothbrush with the Gongju Station logo) at Gongju Station and the Gongsanseong Information Center.

The city is developing various linked tourism products to establish Gongju Station not just as a railway station, but as a tourism hub connected to Baekje cultural heritage and a central transportation point in the Chungcheong region.

In particular, last year, through an agreement with Korea Railroad Corporation, the city provided transportation convenience to tourists by offering railway fare discounts and operating city buses and city tours on five routes passing through Gongju Station.

Mayor Choi Woncheol said, “Over the past 10 years, Gongju Station has served as an important foundation for the future development of Gongju. Through this anniversary event, we will look back on our achievements and continue to focus on revitalizing the local economy and tourism centered around Gongju Station.”
