Chonnam National University Professors: "Constitutional Court Should Uphold Yoon's Impeachment According to Law and Common Sense" A group of professors from Chonnam National University urging the Constitutional Court to impeach Yoon Seokyeol is issuing a statement in front of the 5·18 Memorial Hall at Chonnam National University, Buk-gu, Gwangju on the 2nd. Professors from Chonnam National University have urged the Constitutional Court to approve the impeachment of President Yoon Sukyeol in accordance with law and common sense.

On the 2nd, 301 professors from Chonnam National University issued a statement calling for the Constitutional Court to remove Yoon Sukyeol from office, saying, "The Constitutional Court must hold President Yoon, the ringleader of rebellion, accountable for violating the constitutional order and deliver a stern constitutional ruling to prevent the resurgence of insurrectionist forces."

They stated, "On December 3rd last year, the entire nation witnessed President Yoon declaring martial law and mobilizing the military despite the absence of war or emergency. Armed special forces troops trampled on the National Assembly and the National Election Commission, which are constitutional institutions."

They continued, "Just like the Gwangju Uprising in May 1980, last year marked a great moment in saving democracy in Korea. The people who witnessed the night of insurrection expected the Constitutional Court's ruling to restore their shattered everyday lives, the rule of law, and democracy. However, while the Constitutional Court delayed its ruling, the foundation of the democratic republic was shaken, and public anxiety and fatigue reached their peak."

They also stated, "The judgment on the unconstitutional and illegal martial law witnessed by the entire nation is crystal clear. If the Constitutional Court cannot deliver a stern judgment on the act of destroying the constitutional order by mobilizing the military, it has no reason to exist. If the Constitutional Court does not uphold the National Assembly's impeachment motion, it will face direct action from the sovereign people to restore delayed justice."

Furthermore, they added, "The people, who have waited and hoped for a ruling by the Constitutional Court based on law and common sense, have no choice but to resist. All professors of Chonnam National University sincerely hope that the Constitutional Court will not cause a catastrophe in which the sovereign people are forced into massive resistance."
