Dong-A University Seokdang Museum Selected for University Museum Promotion Support Program

Expanding Educational Programs for Youth, People with Disabilities, and the Socially Disadvantaged in Busan

Seokdang Museum at Dong-A University (Director: Kim Kisoo) announced that it has been selected for the “2025 University Museum Advancement Support Project” for the fourth consecutive year. This project is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korean University Museum Association.

This initiative, under the theme “University Museums as Cultural Powerhouses Shaping Future Value,” supports programs that actively utilize the university’s human and material resources to address sustainable and diverse societal issues and interdisciplinary topics.

This year, Seokdang Museum at Dong-A University is launching the “Baeknyeoncheongsa Universe” educational program to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the construction of the Busan Temporary Capital Government Building. This nationally registered cultural heritage, the “Busan Temporary Capital Government Building,” is currently used as the Seokdang Museum building, and the museum itself is recognized for its value as a cultural heritage site.

“Baeknyeoncheongsa Universe” refers to an all-in-one educational platform at the university museum, designed to be inclusive and open for both university members and local residents. Through this platform, Seokdang Museum will operate two programs: “Baeknyeoncheongsa Sharing School” and “TeenTeen Digital Baeknyeoncheongsa.”

“Baeknyeoncheongsa Sharing School” is an outreach experience program for people with disabilities, focusing on five aspects of local modern and contemporary heritage (architecture, art, crafts, coffee, and transportation) in collaboration with Seokdang Museum. Using easy-to-understand explanations through animation and hands-on teaching aids, the program helps participants engage with history and culture more easily and continuously.

This program aims to foster emotional and social integration across people with and without disabilities, and is expected to establish itself as an open educational platform reflecting eco-friendly values.

“TeenTeen Digital Baeknyeoncheongsa” is a mission-based educational and career exploration program for middle school students, including those from low-income families. Students can actively explore Seokdang Museum using the mission-based activity sheet “The Secret of the Red Bricks” and experience unique learning opportunities that incorporate digital technology.

Additionally, Seokdang Museum will collaborate with Dong-A University’s major mentoring group “Goon” to provide participants with opportunities to explore various academic fields offered at Dong-A University.

Both programs are currently accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis for middle schools, local children’s centers, special schools (classes), and welfare facilities, and will be operated from April 1 to October 31, excluding holidays and weekends.

Schools and institutions interested in participating can refer to the Dong-A University Seokdang Museum website or inquire by phone.

Director Kim Kisoo stated, “The goal of this educational program is to broaden opportunities for everyone to easily access and enjoy the representative cultural heritage of Seokdang Museum at Dong-A University. We hope to share this historic space, which has endured a hundred years, with citizens living today, and further, that future generations will be able to experience and learn its value.”
