A Musical Based on a True Story, "R;LINK," to Premiere in July
Hanyang University is embarking on a joint creative musical project for cultural and artistic exchange between young artists from Korea and Canada.
On the 4th, Hanyang University announced that to celebrate the '2024-2025 Korea-Canada Mutual Cultural Exchange Year,' students from Hanyang University's Department of Theater and Film, the University of Saskatchewan's Department of Theater, Capilano University's Department of Theater, and the First Nations University of Canada's Department of Arts will collaboratively produce the original musical "R;LINK."
The musical "R;LINK" tells the story of solidarity (Link) beyond borders on the hockey rink (Rink), based on the true story of Canadian soldiers who played ice hockey on the Imjin River during the Korean War.
The production launch ceremony was held on the 21st of last month at the Canada Battle Monument in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, attended by about 100 officials from both countries, including Hanyang University President Lee Ki-jung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon, Canadian Ambassador to Korea Tamara Mohyani, President Park Chang-sik of the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange, and Gapyeong County Governor Seo Tae-won.
The event included a wreath-laying and moment of silence for the victims of the Gapyeong battle, a reenactment of the battle, and a creative presentation introducing the purpose of the project.
President Lee said, "This project will go beyond simple artistic creation and become a symbol of friendship and cooperation built by future generations based on the deep historical ties between our two countries."
The original musical "R;LINK" will premiere on July 26-27 at the Seoul Content Korea Lab (CKL) stage, followed by performances on August 15-16 at the BlueShore Theatre of Capilano University in Vancouver, Canada.
