The Seoul Biennale, which began in 2017, is an international event held every odd year that proposes the future of cities and new paradigms of urban architecture. The theme of this biennale is "Radically More Human." In June last year, Seoul selected Thomas Heatherwick as the general director.

At the academic event held alongside the opening of the biennale, architects, urban experts, and community leaders gather in one place to engage in global discourse aimed at transforming cities to be more human-centered.

Corrine Mynatt, the event producer overseeing the opening academic event, has planned a new format program combining lectures and performances.

The thematic exhibition, urban exhibition, Seoul exhibition, and global studio will present creative exhibitions through collaboration among three project directors, three curators, and one program manager.

The thematic exhibition involves △ Project Director Ho-min Kim (architect, EBS Architecture Exploration Home presenter) △ Project Director Ji-yoon Lee (curator, art manager) △ Project Director Seok-gyu Hong (architect, Royal Institute of British Architects) △ Program Manager Jae-ho Jung (architect, adjunct professor at Ewha Womans University).

The urban exhibition is led by curator Ki-hyun Ahn (professor at Hanyang University Department of Architecture), and the Seoul exhibition is promoted by curators Hyun-seok Kang and Geon-ho Kim. The global studio is overseen by curator Ja-young Kim (CEO of Pafos).

Details and participating experts of the 5th Seoul Biennale can be found on the official Seoul Biennale website and Instagram.

Im Chang-su, Director of Future Space Planning at Seoul City, said, "This theme is an interesting and meaningful approach to exploring the impact of Seoul's urban architecture on its citizens," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that this cultural festival centered on urban architecture brings joy to the citizens."
