Pohang City Mobilizes All Efforts for Wildfire Response... This Year's Pohang Marine Corps Culture Festival Temporarily Postponed

Decision to Postpone the Pohang Marine Corps Culture Festival Scheduled for the 19th-20th
Support for Recovery in Wildfire-Affected Areas and Concentration of Administrative Efforts on Wildfire Prevention

Pohang City has decided to temporarily postpone the "2025 Pohang Marine Corps Culture Festival," which was scheduled to be held on the 19th and 20th, in consideration of the nationwide wildfire disaster situation.

The city has been hosting the Pohang Marine Corps Culture Festival every April, utilizing the Marine Corps Recruit Training Center and the 1st Marine Division located in Pohang, highlighting its identity as the "hometown of Marines" in cooperation with the Marine Corps Veterans Association and others.

However, the city decided to temporarily postpone the festival, taking into account the ongoing national disaster situation, such as the continued issuance of the "severe" wildfire crisis alert nationwide, as well as the urgent need for efficient operation of firefighting and safety personnel and broad civic participation in supporting recovery efforts in affected areas.

Pohang City and the 1st Marine Division plan to discuss a possible timeframe for rescheduling the "2025 Pohang Marine Corps Culture Festival" through working-level consultations, considering the positive impact the festival has on the local economy.

Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "The Pohang Marine Corps Culture Festival has been successfully held every year with the active support of the 1st Marine Division and the Marine Corps Veterans Association, together with the city. At this time, the support of military personnel and the Marine Corps Veterans Association is desperately needed for recovery work in wildfire-affected areas. With deep condolences for the affected regions and a keen awareness of the national disaster situation, we have decided to postpone the festival. We ask for the broad understanding and cooperation of our citizens."

Pohang City is maintaining an emergency work system by mobilizing all available personnel, including public officials and wildfire monitors, until May 15, the end of the spring wildfire prevention period. Since the 27th of last month, the city has also issued administrative orders such as restricting mountain entry, prohibiting outdoor burning, and banning smoking in forests, making every effort to prevent wildfires.
