Yeongju City Recruiting Participants for 'Grandparent-Grandchild Care Program'

Up to 762,000 KRW Monthly Wage
for Grandparents Providing Care
for Their Grandchildren from May to October

Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province will recruit 40 grandparents to participate in the "Grandparent-Grandchild Care Program" from April 7 to 18.

This program is designed to provide income-generating opportunities for the elderly and offer reliable childcare services to families experiencing gaps in caregiving.

In particular, the core of the initiative is to create a virtuous cycle in which grandparents caring for their own grandchildren receive a monthly wage of 762,000 KRW (including weekly holiday allowance), thereby naturally sharing caregiving responsibilities within the family through intergenerational care.

The program will run for five months, from May to October, and participants will provide supplementary care for their grandchildren for up to 60 hours per month (no more than 15 hours per week). The care services include assistance with daily activities, emotional support, and safe living management.

Eligibility is open to grandparents or maternal grandparents aged 60 or older residing in Yeongju City, whose children belong to families vulnerable to caregiving gaps.

The childcare service is available for children from 24 months old up to 10 years old (born after January 1, 2014), and applies to children from dual-income, multi-child, single-parent, disabled parent, or multicultural families experiencing childcare gaps. However, families with another available caregiver at home are excluded, except in cases where there are two or more children under the age of 10, in which case they may exceptionally be included.

Grandparents wishing to apply, along with the parents of the relevant family, must visit the Yeongju Senior Club office together during the application period to submit their application. For more details, please contact the Yeongju Senior Club.

Jung Geunseop, head of the Department of Senior and Disabled Affairs, stated, "This project is expected to have a dual effect by expanding social participation opportunities for the elderly while also reducing the burden on families in need of care," and added, "We hope that the warm touch of grandparents will become a valuable resource, providing emotional stability and hope to their grandchildren."
