Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award to be presented
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is holding a design and video contest to envision future cities ahead of the nationwide redevelopment projects for aging planned cities. The aim is to find the blueprint for revitalizing old cities through public participation.
On the 31st, the Ministry announced, "At the point when nationwide redevelopment projects for aging planned cities are gaining momentum, we are hosting the 'Future City Design and Video Contest' to discover new future visions for aging cities and to raise local residents' interest."
The contest targets 28 aging planned cities that have either started or are about to start establishing their basic plans. Major cities across the country, including Busan, Incheon, Daejeon, Ulsan, Jeonju, Suwon, Yongin, Ansan, Gimhae, and Yangsan, are included.

The contest is divided into two categories: urban design and short-form videos. The urban design category is open to university and graduate students, who can participate individually or in teams of up to five members. Participants must submit a design poster containing the city vision and slogan, along with a master plan explanation document.
The short-form video category is open to the general public. Participants create a 1 to 3-minute video, upload it online, and submit the URL. The video should easily explain the need for redevelopment and the expected benefits, reflecting local characteristics.
Applications are accepted from April 1 to May 21. Judging will be based on four criteria: suitability, feasibility, originality, and others, with public verification to check for plagiarism and other misconduct.
The winners will be announced in June. A total of nine works will be selected and awarded prizes totaling approximately 8 million KRW. The grand prize in the urban design category will receive the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award. The winning works are also planned to be exhibited nationwide in a traveling exhibition.
Kim Gidae, Director of Urban Redevelopment Planning at the Ministry, said, "This year is an important time to implement policies that all citizens can feel, as redevelopment projects for aging planned cities are expanding nationwide beyond the first-generation new towns. Through this contest, we aim to ensure that the public's creative ideas are reflected in actual policies."
Detailed information about the contest can be found on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport website, Sotong24, and the contest submission site.
