Hanwha Ocean Visits Polish Shipyard for Orca Project Collaboration

Visit to Remontowa and Nauta Shipyards... Discussing Cooperation Plans
Strengthening Collaboration in Economic, Industrial, and Naval Sectors... Achieving Contract Success

Hanwha Ocean is actively engaging in local activities to secure the 'ORKA Project,' an 8 trillion KRW contract for the acquisition of three submarines as part of the Polish Navy modernization initiative.

Hanwha Ocean (CEO Kim Heecheol) visited Remontowa Shipyard and Nauta Shipyard, located in Gdansk and Gdynia, Poland, on the 25th and 26th, to discuss cooperation plans related to shipbuilding, MRO business, diversification of ship types, and eco-friendly technologies.

The purpose of Hanwha Ocean's visit to Polish shipyards was not only to win the ORKA Project but also to explore various ways to promote mutual cooperation and development between Korea and Poland through collaboration with local companies.

Hanwha Ocean organized a delegation of 17 employees from various fields including special ship overseas sales, strategy, procurement, and production, and visited the two Polish shipyards. During the visit to Remontowa Shipyard, discussions were held on diversification of ship types such as commercial vessels and cooperation on eco-friendly technologies. With Nauta Shipyard, proposals and discussions were made regarding new shipbuilding and MRO business.

On that day, Monika Kozakiewicz, CEO of Nauta Shipyard, said, "We are pleased to have the opportunity to cooperate with Hanwha Ocean, and we hope to build a long-term strategic partnership based on mutual trust and technological exchange. Nauta and the PGZ Group share a common vision to strengthen capabilities within Poland and are ready to play a leading role in the MRO sector, working closely with Hanwha Ocean."

Dariusz Jaguszewski, CEO of Remontowa Shipyard, also expressed his expectations by saying, "We are exploring the potential for long-term cooperation in various business areas, and once specific matters are organized, we are ready to discuss the next steps. I hope we can create entirely new business opportunities together from a long-term perspective."

Remontowa Shipyard is one of the leading companies in the Polish shipbuilding industry, with an annual record of building and repairing over 200 vessels. It is ranked number one in the MRO sector in Europe and possesses solid experience and technical expertise in both commercial and special-purpose vessels.

Nauta Shipyard is also a defense-specialized shipyard, with extensive experience in military projects and ship design capabilities. It has built and maintained numerous vessels for the Polish Navy and holds the second-largest market share in the military vessel MRO sector in Poland. It is a subsidiary of the Polish state-owned defense group PGZ.

Hanwha Ocean is continuously expanding cooperation with local companies to secure the Polish ORKA Project.

Last year, Hanwha Ocean signed a memorandum of understanding with Polish defense group WB for cooperation in the submarine business. In addition, the company is focusing on localization by establishing MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) plans with Polish state-owned defense group PGZ and the UK’s Babcock, among others.

Hanwha Ocean also plans to contribute to the development of related industries in Poland, including shipbuilding, by localizing submarine MRO and transferring technology in cooperation with over 200 competitive small and medium-sized Korean enterprises with strong technical capabilities.

Park Sungwoo, Executive Director of Hanwha Ocean’s Overseas Business Division, said, "Currently, the preferred bidder for the ORKA Project has not been selected, and Hanwha Ocean is being considered as a strong candidate. Representing Korea, we plan to further strengthen our local activities to enhance cooperation between Korea and Poland in the economic, industrial, and naval sectors, and to ensure this leads to a successful contract."
