The Gwangju Regional Veterans Affairs Office (Director Kim Seokgi) announced on the 29th that a commemorative ceremony was held on the 28th at Munseong Middle School, the alma mater of the late Sergeant Seo Jeongwoo, who was killed in action during the Yeonpyeong Island artillery attack in the region.
More than 600 people, including the bereaved family of the late Sergeant Seo Jeongwoo, Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijung, Gwangju Superintendent of Education Lee Jeongseon, key officials, heads of institutions, military personnel, veterans' organization leaders, and students attended the commemorative ceremony for West Sea Defense Day.
The ceremony proceeded in the following order: a tribute to the bust of the late Sergeant Seo Jeongwoo, the national pledge, commemorative address, memorial speech, words from the bereaved family, pledge to defend the homeland, roll call, and a dedication performance.
An official from the Gwangju Veterans Affairs Office stated, "This commemorative ceremony was centered around the students of Munseong Middle School so that it could be created together with future generations," adding, "This opportunity once again served as a reminder of the noble spirit of sacrifice of the 55 West Sea Defense heroes."
