Ulleung County to Conduct Intensive Collection Period for Local Taxes and Non-Tax Revenue Arrears

Ulleung County in North Gyeongsang Province will operate a '2025 First Half Local Tax Delinquency Clearance Period' with the deputy county governor as the head until the end of June.

The total amount of delinquent taxes to be cleared during this period is 944 million won. There are 19 individuals with local tax delinquencies exceeding 10 million won, and their total delinquent amount is 492 million won, accounting for a significant 52% of the total delinquency.

To track hidden assets, the county will utilize various collection methods, such as seizing virtual assets and trust property, and will conduct customized collection activities according to the type of delinquency.

For those with large or chronic delinquencies, the county will secure claims through property and workplace investigations, and will strongly enforce collection and administrative sanctions such as real estate seizures, wage garnishments, credit card sales claim seizures, continuous day and night license plate crackdowns, and restrictions on licensed businesses.

However, for livelihood-based delinquents, the county will support their economic activity and recovery through deferred collection and installment payments. For those determined to be uncollectible through a status survey, bold suspension of collection will be pursued, implementing flexible and tailored collection activities in parallel.

First, in April, the county will send delinquency notices, real estate and claim seizure pre-notices, and license plate seizure pre-notices to delinquent taxpayers to encourage voluntary payment. To minimize inconvenience to the public, voluntary payment will be promoted and encouraged prior to claim seizure and collection. If payment is not made, seizure and collection will proceed.

County Governor Nam Han-gwon stated, “Local taxes are valuable resources used for the welfare of residents and regional development, so I ask for your cooperation to ensure they are paid. For those with large or habitual delinquencies, we will enforce strong collection measures to recover all delinquent amounts and realize fair taxation.”
