Hildebrandt from Germany Gives Birth to 3.3kg Son
Regular Exercise: One Hour Swimming, Two Hours Walking
A case of a 66-year-old German woman giving birth to her tenth child through natural pregnancy has become a hot topic.
The American weekly magazine People reported on the 26th (local time) that Hildebrandt (66), a German woman, gave birth to a 3.3kg son by cesarean section at a hospital in Berlin, Germany, on the 19th (local time). Both the mother and the newborn are in good health.
Hildebrandt, the chairperson of the Berlin Wall Museum's management committee, naturally conceived her tenth child without any infertility treatment or hormone therapy. Hildebrandt, who gave birth to her first child at the age of 20, has a first daughter, Svitlana, who is now 46 years old. She has given birth to and raised nine children, including 36-year-old Artiom and 2-year-old Katarina.

Giving birth to a tenth child at the age of 66 is a rare event. Wolfgang Henich, Hildebrandt's obstetrician, said, "It was a somewhat uncomplicated pregnancy."
In an interview with the American NBC morning program 'TODAY,' Hildebrandt revealed that she became pregnant naturally without drug treatment. She emphasized that a large family is an important foundation for raising children properly. In fact, Hildebrandt's first child is now 46 years old, and the youngest child born recently is only two years old.
She cited healthy eating and regularly swimming for an hour and walking for two hours as the secrets to her pregnancy and childbirth. Although she has taken care of her body, natural pregnancy in women in their mid-60s is extremely rare. Generally, a woman's fertility gradually declines after her 30s, and after menopause, the possibility of pregnancy significantly decreases. Especially for women who experience menopause between the ages of 45 and 55, medical interventions such as hormone administration or in vitro fertilization are essential for pregnancy.
However, rare cases of natural childbirth at an advanced age like Hildebrandt's do exist. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 1,000 births by women aged 50 and over were reported in 2020. Representative cases include a 51-year-old woman who gave birth to twins during menopause and a woman in China who gave birth to a daughter at 67.
Last December, Ms. A, who gave birth at the People's Hospital in Jinan City, Shandong Province, China, was an elderly pregnant woman who had symptoms of pregnancy-induced hypertension but successfully delivered after a 50-minute surgery that day. The hospital explained that it was the oldest birth since the establishment of the Jinan People's Hospital. The remarkable fact is that she conceived her second child naturally. Her husband is 55 years old, and the couple has a 34-year-old daughter. However, the Chinese obstetrician who participated in Ms. A's treatment explained that the woman's ovarian condition was similar to that of a woman in her 40s. This is analyzed as an important factor that allowed her to conceive naturally.
