Yeonggwang County, Jeonnam Province, announced on the 29th that it will provide pest control supplies to local tomato growers in order to prevent the spread of the invasive pest, tomato pinworm.

The pest control supply support will target 13 tomato farms (8.4ha) identified through a preliminary survey.

The tomato pinworm, an invasive pest first detected in Korea in 2023, spreads rapidly and causes significant damage to fruit vegetables such as tomatoes and peppers. During the summer, the population increases due to high temperatures, and if not controlled in time, it can cause severe damage.

Accordingly, Yeonggwang County is providing tomato pinworm control agents and traps, as well as conducting pest control education.

An official from the Yeonggwang County Agricultural Technology Center stated, "Since the tomato pinworm can cause severe damage to farms, it is important to closely monitor and control the pest in the early stages of cultivation. We will do our best to minimize damage and ensure stable agricultural production through this support."
