Launch of the Occupational Safety and Health Committee
13 Members Appointed to Play a Central Role in Establishing Key Industrial Accident Prevention Policies
Pohang City has launched the "Occupational Safety and Health Committee," which will play a pivotal role in establishing policies to prevent local industrial accidents and promote occupational safety and health.
On the 27th, the city held the "Pohang City Occupational Safety and Health Committee" meeting in the City Hall’s medium conference room, attended by 13 committee members including Kwon Hyukwon, Director of the Job and Economy Bureau.
On this day, 13 committee members were appointed, including the Director of the Job and Economy Bureau as an ex officio member, as well as city council members, representatives from labor, academia, the legal community, related organizations, and prevention agencies?experts in industrial safety and health.
The meeting also included a report on the establishment and implementation plan for this year’s local workplace industrial accident prevention measures and discussed current issues related to occupational safety and health.
For the next two years, the committee members will review major matters related to Pohang City’s industrial accident prevention and occupational safety and health policies, and serve as advisors on local issues.
In particular, the committee will deliberate and advise on the following: establishment, inspection, and evaluation of industrial accident prevention measures; matters related to support for occupational safety and health; and the creation of a foundation and improvement of systems for occupational safety and health.
Going forward, Pohang City plans to actively gather the opinions of committee members who are experts and representatives of related organizations in the field of industrial safety and health, to establish the basic direction of the region’s occupational safety and health policy and prepare optimal implementation plans.
Kwon Hyukwon, Director of the Job and Economy Bureau, stated, "Preventing industrial accidents is an important task for our society," and added, "To prepare for the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and to create a safe industrial environment, the Occupational Safety and Health Committee will play a pivotal role and do its utmost to make Pohang a safer city."
