People Power Party: "Democratic Party Threatens Impeachment of Cabinet Members... At This Level, an Unconstitutional Party"

Strong Criticism from Spokesperson Lee Junwoo and Assemblyman Joo Jinwoo

The People Power Party strongly criticized the Democratic Party of Korea's first-term lawmakers for announcing that if they do not appoint Ma Eun-hyuk as a Constitutional Court Justice candidate, they will impeach all Cabinet members, including Acting Prime Minister Han Deok-soo.

On the 28th, spokesperson Lee Jun-woo stated in a commentary, "Acting Prime Minister Han, who is fully engaged in managing the wildfire damage, is now threatened with impeachment again," adding, "They threatened to impeach not only Acting Prime Minister Han but all Cabinet members without any consideration. This is no different from pointing the sword of autocratic parliamentary power at the people."

Joo Jin-woo, the party's legal advisory committee chairman, wrote on Facebook, "This could constitute criminal offenses such as coercion and abuse of authority, and at this point, the Democratic Party should be subject to dissolution as an unconstitutional party," and declared, "We will immediately begin a legal review to prevent the Democratic Party's paralysis of state affairs."

Assemblyman Yoon Sang-hyun said, "The whole country is plunged into worry and despair due to the wildfire disaster, yet they pretend to comfort the people in front while engaging in such rotten political strife behind their backs. It is pathetic and deplorable," and criticized, "The Democratic Party is a party beyond repair."

The People Power Party also opposed Speaker Woo Won-shik's filing of a constitutional dispute petition against Acting Prime Minister Han regarding the suspension of Ma's appointment, saying, "Stop intimidating the Constitutional Court and Acting Prime Minister Han immediately."

Senior spokesperson Shin Dong-wook said in a commentary, "Is it so difficult to expect political neutrality from the Speaker of the National Assembly?" and added, "While talking about the law, aren't they politically intimidating the Constitutional Court and Acting Prime Minister Han?" He continued, "The Speaker of the National Assembly, who repeatedly abandons the duty of political neutrality and acts like a spokesperson for a specific party, is the very person undermining the constitutional order."
