The Myanmar military regime declared a state of emergency in six areas affected by a magnitude 7.7 earthquake in the country and requested humanitarian aid from the international community, AFP reported on the 28th (local time).

According to AFP, Min Aung Hlaing, the commander-in-chief of the Myanmar military government, was seen arriving at a hospital in the capital, Naypyidaw, where the injured from the earthquake were receiving treatment.
The number of casualties is not yet known, but a representative from a general hospital in Naypyidaw told AFP that there were a large number of casualties.
