Gimpo City Expects Boost in Local Tourism
Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 28th that it will launch the "2025 DMZ Peace Road Themed Route Tour Program" (hereinafter referred to as the Themed Route) starting April 18, allowing participants to experience the unique ecological culture and historical resources of the border area. This program was prepared to share the peaceful value of the DMZ area with the public and to promote local tourism and economic revitalization.
The Gimpo course of the Themed Route involves traveling by bus from Gimpo Art Hall (meeting point) to the Siam-ri barbed wire road, walking along a 4.4 km section of the barbed wire road, then taking the bus again to visit the Aegibong Peace Ecological Park. The entire course takes about 5 hours. Participants can walk along the barbed wire road within the Civilian Control Line and enjoy views of Kaepung County in North Korea and the beautiful scenery of the Jogang area from the Aegibong Observatory.
Those wishing to participate can apply online starting from the 28th through the Peace Road website and the mobile app "Durunubi." Participants will undergo identity verification and pay a participation fee of 10,000 KRW. The fee will be used for souvenirs, entrance fees, and other expenses to help revitalize the local economy.
A Gimpo City official stated, "Through this Themed Route tour program, we plan to do our best to prepare for the opening so that the public can directly share and experience the peace, ecology, and historical value of the DMZ."
Meanwhile, the 2025 DMZ Peace Road Themed Route will operate a total of 10 courses including Gimpo City, Ganghwa, Goyang, Paju, Yeoncheon, Cheorwon, Hwacheon, Yanggu, Inje, and Goseong, offering differentiated experiential programs tailored to each local government.
