On the 27th (local time), the United States expressed condolences and offered support regarding the large-scale human and property damage caused by wildfires in the Yeongnam region of Korea.
The State Department issued a statement on the same day in the name of its spokesperson, saying, "The United States sincerely expresses its condolences for the tragic loss of life and extensive damage caused by the ongoing wildfires in the southeastern region of Korea."
It continued, "The deadly wildfires have not only caused casualties but also destroyed homes and historical sites. The United States stands with its ally during this difficult time. The U.S. Forces Korea are also prepared to assist in firefighting efforts and support the affected areas."
The State Department added, "We mourn the sacrifices of the brave firefighters and many others who lost their lives, and we keep their families and the displaced in our thoughts during this tragic time."
Referring to recent large wildfires in the western United States, the State Department said, "The United States has not forgotten Korea's unwavering support when wildfires caused significant damage in Los Angeles (LA) and Hawaii, and just as you stood with us, we will stand with you."
