Imsil County Provides Goods in Exchange for Recyclables Collection

"Preventing Environmental Pollution
and Promoting Resource Recycling"

Imsil County in North Jeolla Province is implementing the 'Recyclable Collection and Exchange Support Project' throughout the year.

According to the county on the 27th, this project aims to prevent environmental pollution through proper separation and disposal of recyclables and to promote resource recycling by allowing households to exchange used recyclables for toilet paper and batteries.

Imsil County Provides Goods in Exchange for Recyclables Collection Collect paper packs, used batteries, ice packs, and plaques to exchange for toilet paper or new batteries. Poster provided by Imsil County.

If residents collect a certain amount of paper packs, used batteries, gel-type ice packs, or trophies and bring them to the nearest town or township office, they can exchange them for new toilet paper or batteries according to the exchange standards.

The exchange standards are as follows: for each item, ▲ five 1,000ml paper packs, ten 500ml paper packs, or twenty 200ml paper packs ▲ ten used batteries ▲ five ice packs ▲ two trophies can be exchanged for one roll of toilet paper or one new battery.

Paper packs should be emptied, rinsed with water, unfolded, and dried before being brought in. Only gel-type ice packs are eligible for exchange, and they should be washed, dried, and delivered to the nearest town or township office.

In particular, only trophies made from recyclable materials (plastic, wood, or metal) are eligible for exchange.

Paper packs for milk, juice, soy milk, etc., are made from high-quality natural pulp, which is mostly imported. When properly separated and collected, they can be recycled into high-grade sanitary paper.

Used batteries contain hazardous substances such as mercury, nickel, zinc, and cadmium. If disposed of with regular waste, they can cause environmental pollution due to heavy metals. However, if properly separated and collected, they can be recycled into valuable metal resources.

Accordingly, the county plans to continue the exchange project throughout the year and focus on promoting it to encourage proper disposal and collection of recyclables, prevent environmental pollution, and raise environmental awareness.

In addition, separate from the exchange project, the county actively encourages the use of water-type ice packs instead of gel-type ice packs for environmental reasons.

Last year, through the recyclable collection and exchange support project, the county collected and washed over 700 ice packs and distributed them to local market merchants for reuse, helping to prevent environmental pollution and providing some economic support to small business owners.

County Governor Sim Min said, "Proper disposal of paper packs and used batteries is important for preventing environmental pollution and recovering valuable resources. I hope many residents will take an interest in recycling and actively participate in the recyclable exchange project."
