District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung Personally Participates to Emphasize Importance of Mental Health
"Mind Flower Care Counseling Room" on Health Center's 2nd Floor, Strengthening One-on-One Customized Counseling
Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) conducted a "Mental Health Checkup for Mind Flower Care" for employees in front of the district office cafeteria on March 26. This checkup was organized as part of a suicide prevention project to promote a culture of respect for life and to take care of employees' mental health.
At the event, a simple mental health checkup was conducted using a smart QR code (electronic survey system) and paper questionnaires. Various suicide prevention projects, including crisis response counseling and the National Mind Investment Support Project, were also introduced.
An employee who participated in the event shared, "I usually don't have the opportunity to reflect on my mind, but through this checkup, I was able to take better care of myself."
District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung also personally took part in the mental health checkup that day, reaffirming the importance of mental health with the employees. He then visited the "Mind Flower Care Counseling Room" within the health center to review its operation status and inspect the counseling environment.
The "Mind Flower Care Counseling Room" was relocated and expanded in January this year from a 1-pyeong (approximately 3.3 square meters) space on the 4th floor of the health center to the 2nd floor, creating a more comfortable environment for counseling. Mental health professionals have been assigned to strengthen one-on-one customized counseling, and counseling visits to institutions for high-risk groups have also been expanded.
District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung stated, "A healthy life begins with a healthy mind," adding, "We will strive to ensure that employees take good care of their mental health and that residents can naturally care for their mental health in their daily lives."
Meanwhile, according to data from the Ministry of Personnel Management and the National Health Insurance Service, the number of public officials who visited hospitals due to mental health issues reached 137,154 in 2023. This means that one out of every twelve public officials has received psychiatric treatment.
