Commemoration Ceremony for the 115th Anniversary of An Jung-geun's Martyrdom to Be Held in Bucheon on the 26th

The 115th anniversary memorial ceremony for patriot Ahn Jung-geun was held on the 26th at Ahn Jung-geun Park in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, organized by the Bucheon branch of the Liberation Association.

The memorial ceremony was arranged to honor Ahn’s spirit of devotion to the country and to commemorate the day of his martyrdom (March 26). The event was attended by about 200 people, including Jo Yong-ik, mayor of Bucheon, Kim Byung-jeon, chairman of the Bucheon City Council, Lee Kwang-hyun, head of the Incheon Veterans Affairs Office, as well as provincial and city council members, veterans’ organizations, and Bucheon citizens.

The ceremony lasted about an hour and proceeded in the order of flower offering and incense burning, reading of Ahn’s biography, memorial address, and a tribute performance by the Nubes Children’s Choir.

In his memorial address, Mayor Jo stated, “On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of liberation, Bucheon City will do its utmost to honor independence activists including Ahn Jung-geun, and together with the citizens of Bucheon, remember the proud history of the independence movement imbued with the noble dedication of our patriotic martyrs.”

Ahn Jung-geun Park was established when the statue of Ahn, brought from Harbin, China on October 26, 2009, was installed in Bucheon. Every year on March 26, Bucheon City holds a memorial ceremony for Ahn, and on October 26, it commemorates the day of the assassination of Ito Hirobumi.
