Professor Baek Heejo of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital Receives Commendation from Minister of Health and Welfare

Contributions to the Advancement of the National Cancer Management Program
and the Improvement of Public Health

Professor Baek Heejo of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital Receives Commendation from Minister of Health and Welfare Heejo Baek, Professor of Pediatrics and Adolescents at Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital.

Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital announced on the 27th that Professor Baek Heejo of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescents received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare in celebration of the 18th Cancer Prevention Day.


Professor Baek was recognized for her contributions to the advancement of the national cancer management program and the improvement of public health through prevention, screening, treatment, and research.


Professor Baek, who treats pediatric and adolescent cancer patients, is dedicated to promoting cancer management programs tailored to specific needs and spreading a culture of cancer prevention. In particular, since 2019, she has served as the head of the "Pediatric and Adolescent Palliative Care Project," leading efforts to improve the quality of life for pediatric and adolescent cancer patients who require palliative care.


Additionally, since last year, she has faithfully served as the head of the regional base hospital for the Honam area in the project to establish a pediatric and adolescent cancer treatment system, providing local pediatric and adolescent cancer patients with a comprehensive treatment program that covers diagnosis, treatment, completion of treatment, and follow-up management.


As the head of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescents at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, she has also built cooperative systems with the local community and delivered messages of hope by hosting events such as the "Hope Essay Contest Made with Dreams" and the "Celebration for the Cure of Pediatric Cancer, Leukemia, and Rare Diseases."


Professor Baek Heejo said, "The treatment of pediatric and adolescent cancer is intense and requires a long period of care, making family support essential," and added, "Consideration for siblings and continuous educational support from the community are necessary for a smooth return to school or society after recovery."
