Some high-ranking public officials who joined the ‘Seohak Ants’ have been found to have increased their wealth based on overseas stock investments. The stock valuation has reportedly increased by as much as several billion won.

According to the ‘2025 Regular Asset Changes of High-ranking Public Officials’ disclosed by the Government Public Officials Ethics Committee through the official gazette on the 27th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon reported assets worth 7.40554 billion won as of the end of last year, ranking first among incumbent metropolitan mayors.

In particular, Mayor Oh’s assets increased by 1.42954 billion won compared to the previous year, significantly growing his wealth by selling domestic stocks and switching to U.S. stocks. Mayor Oh purchased 1,100 shares of Nvidia and 1,241 shares of MicroStrategy, big tech companies, increasing the value of his stock holdings from 1.55 million won to 1.05191 billion won. Mayor Oh’s spouse also purchased U.S. stocks such as TSMC, Nvidia, Tesla, and Palantir Technologies.

Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung also enjoyed considerable gains from investing in U.S. stocks. Shim’s spouse focused investments on tech stocks including 3,174 shares of Nvidia, 2,382 shares of TSMC, 1,442 shares of Microsoft, 1,336 shares of Amazon, 738 shares of Vistra Energy, and 235 shares of MicroStrategy, increasing the value of their stock holdings from 2.1 billion won to 4.6 billion won.

Jang Yong-seong, a member of the Financial Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of Korea, is a long-term holder of U.S. stocks. These stocks were purchased while Jang was working as a professor in the U.S. and have been continuously held without selling. Jang holds 3,700 shares of Amazon, 5,260 shares of Alphabet A, 5,180 shares of Alphabet C, and 114 shares of Tesla, and including his spouse’s overseas stocks, the total stock value amounts to 4.23779 billion won.

The spouse of Kim Eun-hye, a member of the People Power Party, holds stocks including 1,000 shares of Nvidia, 500 shares of NuScale Power, a leading company in Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology, and 735 shares of IonQ, a quantum computing and networking innovation company, through discretionary financial institution products, increasing stock holdings by 278.138 million won compared to the previous year along with domestic listed companies.
