To Be Held at Seonjinsanseong Area on April 5-6
As the nationwide wildfire risk alert has been elevated to the 'Severe' level, the 6th Seonjinsanseong Cherry Blossom Festival, a representative spring festival in Sacheon, Gyeongnam, has been postponed by one week.
The 6th Seonjinsanseong Cherry Blossom Festival was originally scheduled to be held from March 29 to 30 at the Seonjinsanseong area, but due to large-scale wildfires in the nearby Sancheong and Hadong regions, the festival dates have been changed to April 5 and 6.
This year's festival, commemorating the '30th Anniversary of Sacheon City Integration' and the '2025 Year of Visiting Sacheon,' has prepared even more diverse programs compared to previous years, enticing spring visitors from across the country.
Furthermore, with the one-week postponement, the festival is now scheduled to be held together with the 19th Korea Mask Dance Festival, promising an even richer experience as visitors can enjoy both the beautiful cherry blossom scenery and outstanding artistic performances.
There will be 17 stage performances, including Taekwondo demonstrations, K-pop dance, and music performances, as well as 25 experience and sharing booths such as Sacheon Naval Battle history experiences, 7080 retro school uniform try-ons, kite flying experiences, and seedling sharing.
In addition, photo zones blending with the cherry blossoms will be set up throughout the venue, providing not only opportunities for self-photography but also a professional photographer's shooting and photo printing service (limited to about 1,000 prints), offering unforgettable memories to visitors.
Moreover, a parasol zone for visitors to relax and a maze zone for active children have been arranged to provide unique experiences.
Additionally, this year, various experiences such as non-flying kite exhibitions and kite-making workshops at Seonjin Riverside Park, as well as the operation of Saemaeul Library, will be offered to visitors. The expansion of the festival venue is also intended to prevent crowds from gathering in one place.
In particular, a wish cherry blossom tree truss arch will be installed, allowing individuals to make personal wishes while also expressing citizens' hopes for the enactment of the 'Special Act on the Construction and Development of the Aerospace Complex City.'
Furthermore, the festival will feature the Sacheon Cultural Foundation's 'Traveling Cultural Concert,' busking performances at the Seonjinsanseong outdoor stage, and a flea market event organized by local youth businesses.
Meanwhile, on April 4, the day before the festival, a 'memorial performance' will be held at the Seonjinsanseong outdoor stage to mourn the victims of the wildfires. Visitors will have time to remember the wildfire victims while enjoying the unique charm of nighttime cherry blossoms illuminated by lights.
Jang Jeomsoo, Chairperson of the Seonjinsanseong Cherry Blossom Festival Organizing Committee, said, "We sincerely apologize for having to postpone the festival due to the nationwide wildfire disaster and the issuance of the 'Severe' national crisis alert. We express our condolences to those who tragically lost their lives in the wildfires and offer heartfelt sympathy to their bereaved families."
