Yangpyeong-gun, a pristine natural tourist destination located upstream of the Han River, is promoting this reusable container washing facility construction project to preserve a clean environment and spread a sustainable consumption culture. The project aims to reduce the use of disposable plastics and decrease environmental pollution.

The washing facility to be constructed will be located at 418 Haja-po-ri, Gaegun-myeon. With a total project cost of 2.4 billion KRW, the facility will include a 735.94㎡ washing building equipped with reusable container washing facilities and four apron washing machines. Notably, it will have the capacity to wash 20,000 reusable containers per day, expected to sufficiently meet local demand. Until now, washing and rental services for reusable containers, which relied on external companies, will be handled locally, greatly contributing to revitalizing the regional economy.

The washing process will be carried out through a systematic and hygienic procedure using automated equipment, including soaking and preliminary washing, ultrasonic sterilization washing, high-pressure steam washing, purified water rinsing, high-temperature + UVC sterilization drying, precise inspection, and packaging and delivery in dedicated storage boxes. Additionally, the facility will be designed so that anyone can observe the washing process.

This project will proceed from March to December this year, and from 2026, reusable containers used in local festivals, events, restaurants, cafes, and more will be washed at the facility. The reusable containers will be self-produced with designs reflecting the opinions of users and embodying the individuality of the residents.

Jeon Jin-seon, Governor of Yangpyeong-gun, said, "Through this project, we aim to establish a clean and hygienic culture of using reusable containers, reduce waste generation by banning disposable products, achieve carbon neutrality and greenhouse gas reduction goals, and simultaneously contribute to the development of the local economy.”
