Gochang County Holds Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Meeting for FMD Control

Three Key Disinfection Facilities Operate 24 Hours a Day

Gochang County, Jeonbuk announced on the 26th that it held a 'Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Countermeasure Meeting' the previous day, attended by the head of the county's quarantine department, representatives of each livestock association, and Gochang Buan Livestock Cooperative, to discuss measures to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.

The county immediately disseminates information to farms in the event of an outbreak of livestock infectious diseases and operates three disinfection facilities at key locations 24 hours a day to prevent cross-contamination from livestock vehicles.

Eight disinfection vehicles, including those from the joint quarantine team, are being deployed to strengthen disinfection at migratory bird habitats and farm entrances and exits. The county is also providing guidelines on quarantine measures and compliance to related producer organizations such as livestock cooperatives.

Additionally, emergency vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease for all cattle and goats (880 farms) was completed between the 14th and 22nd, and the county and the quarantine headquarters are conducting daily phone monitoring of cloven-hoofed livestock farms.

Currently, avian influenza (AI) has reached the 'serious' alert level in seven regions including Jeonbuk (Gyeonggi, Chungnam, Chungbuk, Gyeongbuk, Jeonnam, Sejong), with administrative orders extended and inspection systems maintained at the same level as during the special quarantine period.

To support farm-level quarantine, disinfectants for foot-and-mouth disease and AI viruses are being supplied through each town and township to 820 cloven-hoofed livestock farms and 126 poultry farms for internal and external disinfection of barns. Farms are instructed to conduct inspections at least twice daily and to report any suspected cases immediately.

County Governor Shim Deokseop emphasized, "Thorough vaccination, meticulous disinfection, and clinical monitoring are more important than ever to block the introduction of foot-and-mouth disease," and added, "We ask that all possible quarantine measures be mobilized proactively and strongly to prevent livestock infectious diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease."
