Proposing Measures for Mutual Cooperation

Final Presentation of Research Project on Swimming Pools in Jeju-do Held Jeju Island government office building exterior.

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province is set to develop measures for mutual cooperation among public, private, and school swimming pools.

On the morning of the 26th at 10 a.m., Jeju Province will hold the final report meeting for the “Research on Analysis of Swimming Pool Operations and Efficient Management Measures in the Province” at Samda Hall in the Jeju Provincial Government Office.

This research project was carried out to address complaints and seek systematic management solutions regarding the shortage of public swimming pools compared to the local swimming population, the imbalance in facility expansion between urban and rural areas, frequent closures, and intensified competition for classes.

In particular, the focus was on devising efficient operational plans and role-sharing among public, private, and school swimming pools through comparative analysis of management cases in Jeju and other regions.

At this report meeting, based on the comparative analysis of Jeju and other regions’ management cases, several models will be presented, including: ▲ a public swimming pool completion system model ▲ an appropriate usage fee model for public swimming pools considering private pool operations ▲ a model for opening school swimming pools to the private sector ▲ and a facility management corporation application model.

The meeting will be attended by representatives from the Jeju Provincial Office of Education, research staff, and both private and public swimming pool stakeholders. Any interested residents of Jeju are welcome to participate and share their opinions.

Previously, Jeju Province operated a working group composed of around ten members, including officials from the provincial council, the Office of Education, relevant administrative departments, swimming pool stakeholders, and experts, collecting diverse opinions through two meetings and an interim report session.

Kim Yangbo, Director of Culture, Sports, and Education for Jeju Province, stated, “We have sought concrete measures for public, private, and school swimming pools to clearly define their roles while also achieving mutual growth,” adding, “Based on the research results, we will promptly implement policies that residents can feel, creating a healthier Jeju.”
