Taean County in South Chungcheong Province has launched a medium-scale LPG pipeline network construction project for residents in energy-vulnerable areas.
The county announced on the 25th that it will invest a total project cost of 7,492,790,000 KRW, including 3.7 billion KRW in national funds, to establish a medium-scale LPG pipeline network in Seungeon 1-ri, Anmyeon-eup by the end of this year, and held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 24th.
The medium-scale LPG pipeline network construction project, overseen by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, is designed to build and support LPG storage facilities and pipeline networks in central areas of towns and townships where city gas is not supplied.
After successfully passing the preliminary feasibility review in 2023, the county completed the site selection and design for the LPG storage tank last year and has now begun construction. Once the project is completed, approximately 700 households in Seungeon 1-ri will benefit.
Unlike the previous individual LPG cylinder delivery system, this collective supply method using LPG storage tanks and pipeline networks will reduce gas fees by about 30% compared to cylinders. The modernization of gas facilities will improve aesthetics and significantly enhance safety, with the county expecting safety levels to be more than five times higher than those of LPG cylinder facilities, also helping to prevent gas-related accidents.
In particular, uninterrupted fuel supply comparable to city gas will increase convenience, and the modernization of facilities is expected to greatly improve the residential environment's appearance.
The county plans to complete the installation of storage facilities, supply pipelines, and usage facilities, finish installing boilers in households in the second half of the year, and ensure LPG supply to households is completed by the end of the year at the latest.
Additionally, the county is determined to continuously promote energy welfare for residents by investing over 4.5 billion KRW in the LPG pipeline network construction project for Sinjindo 1-ri in Geunheung-myeon (about 400 households), aiming to begin construction in March next year and currently proceeding with design and contractor selection.
A county official stated, "Through the medium-scale LPG pipeline network construction project, we will take another step toward making Taean County a prosperous place for all residents," adding, "We will do our utmost in cooperation with related agencies to ensure the successful implementation of the project."
