Damyang County, 'Humanities Education and Traditional Garden Special Zone' Designation Extended for 4 Years Damyang County Office building exterior.

Damyang County in Jeollanam-do announced on the 25th that the designation of its Humanities Education and Traditional Garden Special Zone has been extended for four more years, until 2028, following a change in its status.

The Regional Specialized Development Zone system allows local governments to independently establish specialized development strategies that differentiate them from other regions. The central government supports these strategies by applying selective regulatory exemptions and institutionalizing specialized projects, thereby promoting the foundation for the region's self-sustaining growth.

Damyang County was first designated as a special zone in 2016 and was selected as an 'Outstanding Special Zone' in last year's evaluation of special zone operations, thereby enhancing its brand value as a city known for its ecological environment and humanities.

With this new designation, Damyang County will continue operating the Humanities Education and Traditional Garden Special Zone until 2028. In addition to the two existing specialized projects (revitalization of humanities education and tourism development of traditional gardens) and eight detailed projects, two more initiatives?'Regional Specialized Humanities Education Development Project' and 'Korean Garden Culture Leading Project'?will be added, bringing the total to ten projects.

An official from the county stated, "Based on this new designation, we will establish the Damyang brand through the harmony of history, culture and arts, ecological environment, and humanities education, contributing to the expansion of stay-type tourism, regional economic development, and job creation."
