Seoul National University College of Medicine Deans: "27th Deadline for Return... May Face Serious Situation"

"Leave of Absence Applications with Unclear Reasons Will Be Rejected"
"Medical Students Who Do Not Return After the 27th Cannot Be Protected"

The dean's team of Seoul National University College of Medicine appealed to medical students to return, stating that the deadline is the 27th. They warned that after the 27th, all decisions will be beyond the control of the medical school deans, and it may not be possible to protect students who have not returned.

On the 25th, the dean's team of Seoul National University College of Medicine posted a letter titled "A Message to Students and Parents" on the college's website, saying, "There is no more time to hesitate, so through this letter, we earnestly speak to you one last time," and "We sincerely ask you once again to muster your courage and please return."

They added, "We can no longer overlook the academic gap of medical students, so we are strictly and carefully reviewing the reasons for leave of absence submitted by students," and "If it is judged that the leave application is not due to personal reasons or if the reasons are unclear, the leave application will be rejected."

They also criticized acts that hinder the return to classes. The dean's team stated, "We will never tolerate acts that obstruct the return to classes, such as coercing strike leaves, forcing withdrawal from course registration, or demanding proof of non-return," and "Seoul National University College of Medicine is actively responding to such inappropriate behaviors, and a unified reporting channel will soon be established at the level of the Korean Association of Medical Colleges (KAMC)."

Furthermore, the dean's team warned, "The deadline to operate the curriculum while maintaining the quality of education and academic management principles is the 27th," and "Above all, after the 27th, all decisions will irreversibly be beyond the control of the medical school deans, and we may face a serious situation completely contrary to the medical school's principle and will of 'student protection.'"

They also urged for careful decision-making. The dean's team said, "Information based on communities or unverified facts should not influence individual autonomous judgment," and "Please focus only on the official stance of the medical school. Since this is a matter concerning the future, we ask you to exercise utmost caution."
