Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital announced on the 25th that Professor Kim Inyoung's neurosurgery team presented a research paper at an international academic conference attended by world-renowned authorities in Gamma Knife treatment.
The Gamma Knife Center research team, consisting of Professor Kim Inyoung, Dr. Im Sahoe, and nurse Choi Jihyun, participated in the "9th Asian Leksell Gamma Knife Society Meeting 2025" held recently at NUHS (National University Health System) in Singapore.
At this conference, Professor Kim Inyoung presented research results on the topic of "Gamma Knife Treatment for Brain Metastases of Squamous Cell Carcinoma."
The study analyzed the effectiveness and safety of Gamma Knife treatment for patients with brain metastases caused by squamous cell carcinoma, a type of lung cancer, and holds significant clinical value in improving treatment outcomes for these patients.
Dr. Im Sahoe presented on the topic of "Clinical Applicability of Positron Emission Tomography in Gamma Knife Surgery."
In this presentation, Dr. Im introduced a Gamma Knife surgery planning method that incorporates PET imaging for the treatment of recurrent brain tumors after radiosurgery and shared clinical experiences.
The Gamma Knife Center at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital is leading non-invasive treatment of brain tumors and cerebrovascular diseases using advanced radiosurgery equipment, and is at the forefront of treating patients with brain disorders both domestically and internationally. Since its opening in 2004, the center reached 5,000 Gamma Knife surgeries by 2022 and surpassed 6,000 cases last year. This is the second fastest record among national university hospitals, following Seoul National University Hospital.
Professor Kim Inyoung said, "It is very meaningful that our hospital's advanced medical technology and research capabilities have been internationally recognized through participation in this academic conference," and added, "We will continue to achieve world-class research results in the field of brain tumor treatment."
