The sidewalk near the construction site of Gwangju Urban Railway Line 2 has experienced raised and cracked paving blocks, prompting the authorities to investigate the cause.
According to Nam-gu, Gwangju on the 25th, a complaint was recently filed through the National Sinmungo regarding cracks appearing on a road in Bongseon-dong, Nam-gu, adjacent to Section 4 of the Urban Railway Line 2 construction site.
The cracking occurred over a stretch of about 100 meters on the permeable concrete pavement, which is a material that absorbs water well. There have been no further incidents such as personal injury, ground subsidence, or sinkholes as a result.
Nam-gu, which conducted an on-site inspection the previous day, suspects that the cracks appeared during the process of expanding the narrowed road due to the Urban Railway Line 2 construction. It was explained that the cracks developed as the sidewalk, formerly used as a flower bed, was converted into a roadway.
Nam-gu has informed the Gwangju Urban Railway Headquarters of the issue, and the headquarters has started work to restore the permeable concrete on the sidewalk.
An official from the district said, "We are conducting additional inspections of the surrounding roads and sewer pipelines before restoring the road," and added, "We will proceed with the restoration quickly to minimize inconvenience for residents."
