The Gwangju Metropolitan Council's Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, chaired by Hong Giwol, conducted an on-site inspection by walking the entire 37km construction section of Urban Railway Line 2.
According to the council's Special Expert Committee Office on the 24th, for three days starting today, they will circle the Urban Railway Line 2 route on foot and by bicycle, inspecting construction progress and safety measures.
The inspection focuses on the condition of road pavement, pedestrian safety, and bicycle convenience, with an emphasis on ensuring that pedestrians and cyclists can move safely and conveniently.
In addition, as the second phase of Urban Railway Line 2 construction has been delayed, causing increased inconvenience for citizens, resident interviews will also be conducted to identify issues within the public transportation system, such as city bus operations.
Through these efforts, the city aims to assess the feasibility of its "Dae-Ja-Bo Policy," which focuses on public transportation, bicycles, and walking, and to identify and improve the connectivity between walking environments and public transportation.
Chairperson Hong Giwol of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts stated, "By walking the entire section of Urban Railway Line 2, we will closely inspect the construction progress and listen to the vivid voices of residents, which will be used as basic data for future legislative activities."
The inspection schedule for the "Urban Railway Line 2 One Round" begins on the first day at Gwangju City Hall Station, passing through Sangmu, Baegun Square, and Namgwangju to Buk-gu Office, covering about 17km. On the second day, the route goes from Buk-gu Office through Ilgok-dong, Yangsan-dong, and Cheomdan District to Suwan District, covering about 16km. On the third and final day, the inspection will conclude by traveling about 7km from Suwan District through Gwangsin Bridge and Yudeok-dong (vehicle depot) back to City Hall Station.
Meanwhile, major issues at the site will be documented with photos and videos, and real-time information will be provided to citizens through one or two YouTube live broadcasts each day.
