"Cannot Be Tolerated for Any Reason"
The Presidential Office expressed strong regret on the 24th over the spread of rumors related to wildfires occurring across the country.
In a press release on the same day, the Presidential Office stated, "We strongly regret the behavior of some YouTubers who have exploited the nationwide disaster of wildfires as material for conspiracy theories such as 'Homa Rituals'."
The Presidential Office also expressed deep regret toward some media outlets that unilaterally reported the malicious false claims of the YouTuber, who has continuously raised politically motivated conspiracy theories, without verifying them, and requested that such reporting be restrained.
It added, "This wildfire is a national disaster that the entire nation is working together to overcome," emphasizing, "In such circumstances, spreading conspiracy theories cannot be tolerated for any reason."
Earlier, a progressive-leaning YouTuber with about 23,800 subscribers posted a video titled "Kim Geon-hee, Homa Ritual due to Wildfire" the previous day. The Homa Ritual refers to an esoteric ritual using fire. Meanwhile, among supporters of President Yoon, claims have been spreading that spies targeted important national facilities and deliberately set fires, causing the wildfires.
