Policy Meeting Held on Key Issues Including Okjeongho Tourism Resource Development
Jeonbuk Imsil-gun and the Jeonbuk Research Institute held a policy meeting on the 21st to discuss major key issues, including the KTX stop at Imsil Station.
According to the county on the 24th, this policy meeting was organized to strengthen the organic cooperation system with the Jeonbuk Research Institute, which serves as the think tank for Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, and to discuss solutions for issues related to projects necessary for improving the quality of life of local residents and revitalizing the local economy.
The main agenda items discussed in depth on this day were: ▲Development of Okjeongho tourism resources ▲Introduction and promotion of Jersey cattle linked to the Agro-bio Industry District ▲KTX stop at Imsil Station and relocation of Imsil Station ▲Discovery of tasks linked to the Wonkwang University Glocal University Regional Coexistence Project, among others.
In particular, there was an in-depth discussion on the development of logic for the KTX stop and relocation project at Imsil Station, which could usher in the era of 10 million tourists in Imsil and have a significant impact on the local economy, as well as on measures for introducing and fostering Jersey cattle linked to the Agro-bio Industry District, with the Jeonbuk Research Institute presenting policy trends and response plans.
It was emphasized that the KTX stop at Imsil Station is essential for resolving transportation inconveniences for visitors to Imsil, expanding the resident population, and achieving balanced regional development, as Imsil is the only station on the Jeolla Line where the KTX does not currently stop.
In particular, with the ImsilN Cheese Festival, the opening of the Okjeongho Suspension Bridge, and the creation of the World Famous Dog Theme Land, the need for a KTX stop at Imsil Station has been consistently raised to improve the convenience of visitors and provide better transportation for those visiting the 35th Division, the 6th Ammunition Depot, the National Imsil Patriots Cemetery, and the Jeonbuk 119 Safety Experience Center, in order to usher in the era of 10 million tourists in Imsil.
The county is currently focusing on eco-friendly tourism development utilizing the excellent ecological resources of Okjeongho, and in 2024, the Okjeongho area was selected as a leading region for the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province's Eco-friendly Mountain Tourism Promotion District, with plans to establish various tourism facilities such as a 5km cable car and a curved zipline.
In addition, with the selection of Imsil as a leading district for the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province ImsilN Cheese and Dairy Agro-bio Industry, the county is working to upgrade the existing Holstein-based Imsil cheese industry and strengthen its competitiveness by establishing a foundation for the introduction and promotion of Jersey dairy cows that produce high-protein, high-fat milk.
The county plans to use the opinions gathered at this meeting to enhance the completeness of the projects, supplement the logic for resolving issues and securing national funds, and establish specialized development strategies.
Lee Namho, head of the Jeonbuk Research Institute, stated, "Imsil-gun has great development potential with various resources such as Okjeongho, the cheese industry, and the Osu legend," and added, "The Jeonbuk Research Institute will spare no effort in supporting the county as it opens the era of 10 million tourists."
Shim Min, the county governor, said, "I find it very meaningful to have held a policy meeting with the Jeonbuk Research Institute on major county issues," and added, "We will continue to expand cooperation with the Jeonbuk Research Institute so that Imsil-gun can become a premium city for 10 million tourists."
