Free Preliminary Screenings Offered
for Residents Aged 60 and Older
Hampyeong County in Jeonnam Province announced on the 23rd that it will conduct free year-round early dementia screenings to enable early detection and timely treatment.
Dementia can be slowed and quality of life improved the earlier it is detected, making regular screenings essential. Accordingly, Hampyeong County is offering free preliminary screenings at public health centers for local residents aged 60 and older who have not been diagnosed with dementia.
To improve access to screenings, Hampyeong County is collaborating with local health subcenters and clinics, and is also conducting home visits for seniors with mobility difficulties. Seniors aged 75 and older, as well as those turning 75 this year, are designated as a priority group for focused management and are strongly encouraged to participate in screenings.
If dementia is suspected, further diagnostic and differential tests are provided to reach a final diagnosis. For those confirmed with dementia, up to 150,000 KRW for diagnostic tests and up to 80,000 KRW for differential tests are subsidized.
Additionally, those diagnosed with dementia and registered at the public health center's Dementia Safety Center can receive various dementia care services, including support for dementia treatment and management costs, provision of care supplies, dementia patient respite programs, family classes and healing programs, and missing person prevention services.
Lee Sangik, Mayor of Hampyeong County, stated, "Early detection and treatment are most important for dementia. I hope residents will actively participate in early dementia screenings to prepare for a healthy later life, and the county will do its best in dementia prevention and management."
