A Fake Proposal for Free Drinks at a Hawaiian Resort
Couple's Staged Event Sparks Outrage After Social Media Confession
A controversy has arisen after it was revealed that a married couple staged a 'fake proposal' at a resort restaurant in Hawaii, USA, to receive free drinks.
According to reports from the British Daily Mail and others on the 20th, a proposal video of a couple that went viral on social media earlier this month was actually an act to get free alcohol.
The released video shows the man, Joseph Vasquez (32), kneeling on one knee to propose to the woman, Yella (27). The woman smiled brightly and hugged him, and the man lifted her up, spun her around, and kissed her joyfully. The restaurant was filled with guests who cheered and applauded the couple in celebration.
However, the husband's proposal was revealed to be an act to receive free drinks. The wife, Jaela, confessed on her social media the next day that "my husband staged a fake proposal last night to get free alcohol."
Her confession sparked outrage among netizens. Comments included, "You stole from people," "Do you enjoy deceiving others?" and "Are you proud to post this?"
The video Jaela posted confessing the fake proposal has been viewed over 38.46 million times on X.
Later, she told the media, "We are actually married as of December 2024," and "The fake proposal was just to lighten the mood and share laughter with people." She added, "Although we believe we did nothing wrong, we respect everyone's opinions," and "We will not plan any fake proposals like this in the future."
