Highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) has been newly detected at a laying hen farm in Cheonan, Chungnam, prompting authorities to implement quarantine measures.
According to the province on the 20th, a farm owner in Pungse-myeon, Cheonan, reported an increase in deaths around 10 a.m. the previous day. After conducting a detailed inspection, AI antigens were confirmed. The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture is currently verifying whether it is highly pathogenic.
This case occurred 11 days after the first detection in the same area on the morning of the 8th, and it is reported to be 1.9 km away from the previously affected farm.
The province has deployed an initial response team and disinfection vehicles to prevent the spread of avian influenza, focusing on the affected farm, and plans to cull the laying hens being raised at the reported farm.
In particular, the province plans to designate a 10 km radius around the AI-affected farm as a quarantine zone and assign dedicated farm supervisors as part of its intensive quarantine measures.
Lee Jeongsam, head of the Provincial Livestock and Agriculture Bureau, stated, "We will mobilize all available personnel and equipment to prevent further spread and minimize damage to farms."
