The 'Sojoo-dong Good Neighbor Sharing Refrigerator,' a specialized project by the Sojoo-dong Community Social Security Council in Yangsan-si, Gyeongnam, has become a steadfast source of support for neighbors in need, spreading warmth throughout the community.
This project distributes fresh food donated by local businesses and companies to basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty households, and other low-income groups through the Sojoo-dong Administrative Welfare Center. It began in August 2017 and has continued steadily every Tuesday to this day.
Side dishes and bread provided to users are sponsored by Sungwoo Hitech (located in Sojoo-dong), Busan Eomuk, Goute Pastry Shop, and Bona Bakery, and are delivered every week to 70 households of low-income seniors and people with disabilities.
Members of the Sojoo-dong Community Social Security Council, the Red Cross Volunteer Group, the Saemaeul Women's Association, and the Consumer Union take turns each week to divide and deliver the food, engaging in volunteer work. For recipients with mobility difficulties, food is delivered directly and their well-being is checked, serving as a personal safety network for vulnerable groups.
Lee Soonjae, head of Sojoo-dong (public committee chair), said, "I feel a great sense of fulfillment from the ongoing support and sponsorship for the Sharing Refrigerator project, and I extend my deep gratitude to all donors and volunteer organizations."
