Chungnam Province and Daesan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office held a marine policy consultation.
Chungnam Province and the Daesan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries have agreed to further strengthen their cooperation, including securing additional budgets, to ensure the smooth implementation of policies in the marine and fisheries sector, which is considered a key future growth engine.
On the 19th, the province held the '2025 Chungnam Marine and Fisheries Policy Council' at Boryeong Base in Boryeong City, attended by Jeon Sangwook, Director of the Provincial Marine and Fisheries Bureau, Hwang Seongo, Head of the Daesan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, and around 80 officials from 20 special administrative and related agencies.
During the meeting, the participants shared major marine and fisheries policies and projects of Chungnam Province, and reviewed 23 proposals and 26 cooperation items through intensive discussions and agenda consultations among the agencies.
Regarding the province's proposal to 'secure additional budget for the Seocheon Dodun District coastal maintenance project,' the relevant agency, Daesan Office, responded that they would make efforts to secure additional funding and push the project forward.
In addition, for the 'construction of berthing facilities for new national passenger ships' proposed by Boryeong City to the Daesan Office, it was decided to actively review the matter after confirming the positions of local residents and related agencies.
Regarding the request from the Daesan Office to the province and Seosan City for 'support to vitalize the national pier at Daesan Port,' the province stated that amending the ordinance is necessary to expand incentives for new routes and container cargo, and that it would consult with Seosan City to find a reasonable solution.
Jeon Sangwook, Director of the Provincial Marine and Fisheries Bureau, said, "The ocean is an important resource and a key element for the future. Based on the discussions held at the council, we will establish and implement more advanced policies," adding, "We will continue to do our best to strengthen the competitiveness of the marine and fisheries sector through inter-agency cooperation."
