Gyeonggi Province will conduct on-site inspections to check the progress of major disaster prevention projects, including the ‘Climate Crisis Response Strategic Project,’ in preparation for natural disasters during the summer season, and to identify issues and improvement measures for each project.
The Climate Crisis Response Strategic Project is a project that invests 62.5 billion KRW from the Disaster Management Fund to focus on improving vulnerable facilities where natural disasters may occur due to abnormal weather, thereby protecting the lives and property of residents.
This inspection will be conducted from the 19th of this month to the 17th of next month, covering 55 disaster prevention sites. The remaining sites will be inspected in writing based on progress reports received from 31 cities and counties.
The main inspection targets include ▲expansion of disaster warning and alert systems ▲installation of underground road vehicle blocking systems ▲installation of entry and exit blocking facilities along riverbanks ▲installation of reservoir water level gauges and CCTV ▲installation of flood detection alarm devices in semi-basement houses, among others.
Additionally, projects aimed at improving existing disaster prevention infrastructure, such as local river dredging sites and city/county disaster recovery sites, are also subject to inspection. Furthermore, to prepare for summer heatwaves, cooling fog installation projects and heatwave mitigation facility installation sites have been included in the inspection targets.
Gyeonggi Province plans to verify the progress rate and budget execution status of each project through this on-site inspection and to listen to difficulties encountered on-site in order to provide consulting for effective project implementation plans.
Gyeonggi Province especially aims to complete disaster prevention projects before the summer rainy season. If project completion is difficult, priority will be given to major processes affected by the rainy season, such as reinforced concrete pouring, to expedite project completion.
Lee Jong-don, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Safety Management Office, said, "We will do our best to prevent natural disasters during the summer through on-site inspections of disaster prevention projects in preparation for natural disasters."
