"Kim Sang-wook Expresses Views
Extremely Different from the Party"
Shin Dong-wook, the senior spokesperson of the People Power Party, pointed out that there are "many cases of crossing the line" in relation to party member Kim Sang-wook, who stated he would go on a hunger strike if President Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment is dismissed.
On the 19th, Shin appeared on Channel A radio show 'Political Signal' and said, "In the case of Kim Sang-wook, he expresses voices that are extremely different from the stance of the People Power Party."
On the 12th, Kim stated on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' that "If the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol is dismissed, I will enter a hunger strike in the National Assembly until I die."
Shin said, "This is a voice so different that it would be unimaginable in a regular workplace," adding, "(However, the People Power Party) inevitably has to accept a certain degree of dissent because politics is a collective effort, and the party's stance as a whole is evaluated by voters and the public. Even if there are some disagreements, embracing them is the essence of politics."
Regarding Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo's recent call to suspend Kim's party membership rights, Shin said, "The party leadership cannot avoid concerns about how far they can restrict the conscience freedom of their affiliated lawmakers," adding, "We also have an ethics committee, so if there is a need to discuss disciplinary action on this matter, we will."
On the opposition party's pressure on the Constitutional Court over the delayed final ruling on President Yoon's impeachment trial, Shin criticized, "They are impatient," and said, "They tell us not to pressure the Constitutional Court, but where is there more direct pressure than this? It is inconsistent."
He continued, "Marching on foot and pressuring the Constitutional Court until the verdict date is, in my view, a serious pressure on a constitutional institution," adding, "The second trial verdict for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, is next week, and since time is urgent for Lee Jae-myung's side, the Constitutional Court's ruling seems to be influenced to produce a favorable timetable that can stop Lee Jae-myung's judicial risk."
