Gieun-Oji Connecting Road Under Construction to Ease Commuter Traffic for Citizens
Expansion of National Road 38 and National Support Road 70 to Improve Access to Industrial Complexes
Seosan City in Chungnam Province announced that it is making every effort to build safe and pleasant road infrastructure for its citizens.
The city plans to improve convenience for commuters through the efficient construction of local road networks, while also expanding roads for the transportation of industrial cargo.
The city has identified major projects to improve convenience for citizens by alleviating traffic congestion, including: ▲ the construction of the Gieun~Oji connecting road ▲ the expansion and paving of Urban Planning Road Jungno 1-26 ▲ and the construction of Urban Planning Road Jungno 1-1.
The Gieun~Oji connecting road, which began construction at the end of last year, will connect National Road 38 and City Road 12 to resolve traffic congestion in the Daesan area, with completion targeted for November 2026.
The expansion and paving of Urban Planning Road Jungno 1-26, covering the section from Jukseong 1-tong Senior Center to Seoryeong Elementary School, is set to begin in the first half of 2026 and aims to improve congestion during commuting and school hours.
The construction of Urban Planning Road Jungno 1-1, connecting Donga The Prime Apartments and Galsan-dong Sports Complex, is currently undergoing administrative procedures with the goal of commencing in the first half of 2026 to improve commuting conditions within the city center.
Projects to expand National Road 38 and National Support Road 70 are also underway to enhance accessibility to industrial complexes, reduce logistics costs, and vitalize the local economy.
The National Road 38 expansion project will widen the section from Doggot 1 Intersection in Daesan-eup to Myeongji Intersection to four lanes, while the National Support Road 70 expansion will widen the section from Galsan-ri in Unsan-myeon to Seogu-ri in Hapdeok-eup, Dangjin City, to four lanes as well.
The city is maintaining close cooperation with the Daejeon Regional Office of Land and Infrastructure and Chungcheongnam-do to promote these two projects.
Additionally, the city is pushing forward with the construction of bicycle paths for citizen leisure and pedestrian path improvement projects to create a safer walking environment, in addition to roads for vehicles.
The bicycle path construction project connecting Jamhong-dong and Ganwoldo-ri in Buseok-myeon involves renovating 53.8 km of bicycle paths and installing decks to connect National Support Road 96 and the bicycle path.
This year's pedestrian path improvement project will target areas with high pedestrian traffic such as Daesan-ri in Daesan-eup and Eumnae-ri in Haemi-myeon.
For citizen safety, the city is also working on the maintenance and repair of road facilities, including snow removal, storm drain maintenance, replacement and repair of road signs, asphalt overlay, pothole repair, and roadside mowing.
Last year, the city also gained strong support from citizens by opening several intersections to improve traffic flow, including Galsan Intersection, Dundan-ri Roundabout, and Prugio The Central Apartment Intersection.
Lee Wanseop, Mayor of Seosan, stated, "While focusing administrative efforts on building road infrastructure to enhance citizen convenience, we will also remain vigilant in ensuring citizen safety," adding, "We will continue to do our best to build pleasant road infrastructure that improves the quality of life for our citizens."
